Frequently Asked Questions:
Following are many of the questions people have asked about our services and resources. If your question is not answered here, please feel free to email us!
Do you work with young children?
I am a former first grade teacher, and love working with young children! I am also a parent to children of a wide variety of ages, and feel comfortable dealing with children/teens of all ages. However, I have found that coaching services are typically more beneficial when they are accessed by PARENTS of young children. While I can spend an hour with your child, the information I can provide YOU in one hour can benefit you and your entire family throughout the week/month/year...or for a lifetime! I can work with you to develop valuable strategies for managing difficult behaviors, needs, or other stressors in a way that empowers you and your family to establish healthy boundaries and enjoy the rewards of "proactive parenting!"
Do I need to have a diagnosis in order to access your services?
No diagnosis is required to access any of our services or resources! Although we have over 25 years of experience successfully living and working with individuals with autism or Asperger Syndrome, the work that we do and the strategies we provide can be beneficial to anyone--with or without a diagnosis. We can help whether you have questions about autism, adolescence, anxiety, employment, social success, parenting, teaching, sensory integration, and more! Ultimately, we are here to help YOU succeed at identifying and achieving your personal goals!
If I access your coaching services, how many sessions should I purchase, and how often should I use them?
You are welcome to purchase a one-time, one-hour consultation using a credit card. You'll notice that there is a discount for purchasing 3 or 6 coaching sessions at one time. Those sessions can be used at any time, whenever you need them. Typically we can schedule a session within about a week (or less) of you requesting it. Once we've had a coaching session, YOU let us know when you're ready for the next one, whether it's one week, one month, or a few months later. At this time, sessions do not expire, but can be used whenever you need them.
Are there other ways to pay for your services?
We try to keep our services affordable by generally charging $50 or less per hour. You might be able to use a health savings account to pay for our services--check with your provider for more information. If you have an open case with Michigan Rehabilitation Services, you may be able to request our coaching services (social coaching, job development, and/or job coaching) as part of your Individual Plan for Employment (IPE), at no cost to you. Sometimes family members, churches, or employers are willing to pay for sessions. We are open to working with anyone who would like to fund coaching services on behalf of someone else. If you have a financial need, you are welcome to contact us to see if we can be creative in order to still provide services to you.
Which employers do you work with?
Although we have developed relationships with many employers in Holland, Grand Rapids, Grand Haven, Muskegon, and surrounding areas, we typically create new opportunities for every individual who is looking for an internship or job placement. Your location, transportation options, interests, and abilities all impact the "best placement" for you, and we aim to help you find the best possible place to learn and/or to be successfully employed. You have so many resources...how can I keep up with what's new?
We strive to be a helpful source of insights which incite personal and interpersonal growth." To accomplish that, we do continue to add relevant content, links, and resources to our web site. We are also working on publishing new material! There are two great ways to make sure you don't miss anything each week:
