Laurel Falvo, CFLE, CETS
I am a Certified Family Life Educator (member of the National Council on Family Relations), and a Certified Employment Training Specialist. I am also a Registered Social Service Technician (in Michigan) and a CASA volunteer (Court Appointed Special Advocate for children who have been abused and neglected).
I graduated from Calvin College (Grand Rapids, MI) with a degree in elementary education, with a bilingual endorsement and a Spanish major. I taught first grade at Hudsonville Christian School before leaving to become a mom. Steve and I have four wonderful children. Although I have taken many classes, attended many conferences and presentations, and read many books, the training I value the most is the "on the job" training I've received as I interact with my own family, as well as the countless children, teens, young adults, and adults who have come to me as parents, grandparents, teachers, therapists, employers, service providers, colleagues, and friends seeking to maximize their personal potential and enjoy successful connections with others.
I am a coach. My strength lies in my ability to present information in new ways, help people discover or develop strengths and strategies that will help them to be successful, and encourage people to keep moving forward. In my own life, I am driven to keep learning, growing, connecting, and contributing to make the world a better place for everyone in it.
I have a "heart" for people who are struggling: those affected by autism and Asperger Syndrome or other diagnoses, those who have been abused or neglected, those who have difficulty "fitting in", those for whom "success" has always felt out of reach, those who feel that they could climb higher/grow better with help from someone else...anyone who is seeking to grow personally and interpersonally, and to develop meaningful connections with other people.
My hobbies include writing, and spending time with my family (hiking, cooking, going to church, or just "hanging out" together). The reality is that it can be very difficult to balance home (marriage, parenting, housework, bills), work (both paid and volunteer), church, relationships (friends, family, and work-related connections), and my personal needs (taking care of myself). I continue to learn and grow (often as much from my failures as my successes), and enjoy helping others to do the same!
